Re: Bus Éireann Crisis/ Potential Movement of Buses from Broadstone

Dear Sir,

I refer to the above and our concern that Dublin Bus may stand accused of placing a number of its staff centre stage on the above Crisis.

Whilst acknowledging that Dublin Bus might see merit in making contingency plans to facilitate its own business, there is a real danger here that others, particularly those whose livelihoods are under threat at Bus Éireann might view such actions in a completely different light.

I should at this juncture point out that the NBRU will not be party to any intervention that, viewed through the prism of an impending industrial dispute, would be interpreted as a manoeuvre to frustrate Bus Éireann staff in their pursuance of a genuine Trade Dispute.

I should also highlight the fact that we have advised our members across Dublin Bus and indeed Iarnrod Éireann that the NBRU is not in Official Dispute with their Employers.

That said, it does, at least mortally, suggest that the actions of Dublin Bus may, inadvertently at least, open up a new flank to what, even prior to its commencement, may become a very nasty Industrial Relations Dispute.

Some of the logic being suggested for the Dublin Bus movement of Buses, ‘removing staff from potential flash points’ is not helpful, and has led some observers to ask if Iarnrod Éireann have managed to move it’s Train Sets to different areas in locations such as Limerick, Athlone, Galway, Sligo, Tralee, Waterford etc.

Finally, the NBRU will not be associated with, or condone any attempts to unlawfully impede Dublin Bus Operations.

It is for Dublin Bus’s own Management team and it’s decision making process to make a judgement on the consequences of any plans it makes with regard to involving the Company and its Staff in the Bus Éireann Dispute.
