NBRU ATTEND AT JOINT OIREACHTAS TRANSPORT COMMITTEE AND WARN OF THE POTENTIAL DECIMATION OF RURAL BUS SERVICES AND TRANSPORT CHAOS IF BUS EIREANN MOVE ON EXPRESSWAY CUTS.

General Secretary Dermot O’Leary said:

“The NBRU today informed the Joint Oireachtas Committee, a body it should be noted which is representative of those who are elected to Dail Éireann to serve all of the Community, that the threat to Bus Services cannot go unanswered, the people of Rural Ireland have a way of making the dog bark, it’s called Election Time, the notion that an unchecked toxic Policy, led by the Department, implemented by a well-funded NTA can be allowed to arbitrarily undermine the social and economic fabric of hundreds of communities by disabling Bus Éireann’s ability to serve these areas is simply untenable and politically questionable”

Mr O’Leary went on to say:

“Whilst the most immediate threat of Industrial Action will be with Bus Éireann as the employer in opposition to unilateral cuts to terms and conditions, expecting that Unionised workers in the other CIE Companies namely Dublin Bus and Irish Rail, would stand idly by and allow such an attack on their fellow workers would be foolhardy in the extreme”
