NBRU General Secretary Dermot O’Leary said:
“we have been consistently advancing our concerns with regard to the future of free travel scheme throughout our campaign against the Fine Gael/Labour Goverment proposals to privatise Bus Eireann and Dublin Bus Routes”
Mr O’Leary went on to say “it is patently obvious that private companies are solely interested in making profit, their attitude to-date in the areas where they operate is to leave those on free travel at stops for Bus Eireann to pick up.
The people of Waterford came out in large numbers today in protest at the prospect of their public service being singled out for attack under this ill thought out proposal”.
