NBRU PRESS RELEASE
NBRU: Members Advised to Prepare for The Mother off All Public Transport Disputes.
General Secretary warns that the timeframe for bus Éireann resolution is fast approaching the point of no return.
General Secretary Dermot O’Leary said:
“We think it only reasonable that we would alert people to the fact that the complexities of this dispute make reaching a resolution within the period between now and midnight on Sunday extremely difficult if not nigh on impossible. The NBRU, along with Trade Union colleagues have publicly declared that we are prepared to engage on an efficiency/work practice agenda, as a building block towards an overall solution but it appears that Bus Éireann are determined to make a solution unattainable, given both its actions to-date, by imposing financial sanctions without agreement and setting the bar too high in terms of what it is they are seeking to achieve.”
Mr O’Leary went on to say:
“We remain prepared to engage towards playing our part in resolving the €9 million Expressway Crisis, however we sense that the Bus Éireann Management are geared towards maintaining its race to the bottom agenda of targeting savings of €30 million, which is not a space in which we will engage, furthermore the letter from the Acting CEO on Monday last included reference to a restructuring plan that would not be completed until the end of March at the earliest, our members will absolutely not entertain the notion of buying a pig in a poke, having previously been burned by accepting two cost cutting plans over the last seven years, to as it were, place the Company on a sound footing. We have today advised our members that they should put themselves on a war footing and be prepared for what will inevitably be the mother of all Public Transport disputes.”
