NBRU ACCUSE NTA OF TREATING RURAL IRELAND COMMUTERS AS SECOND CLASS CITIZENS

General Secretary Dermot O’Leary Said:

“Following the announcement of route closures and a number of frequency reductions by Bus Éireann, the NBRU has, this evening sent elected representatives evidence of the type of replacement service that the NTA have used on routes previously vacated by Bus Éireann, clearly illustrating that the NTA view the transport needs of rural Ireland to be of a lesser value than those of us, that reside in larger urban centres.”

Mr O’Leary went on to say:

“given the timing of the Bus Éireann announcement, coinciding as it does with the appearance of the Minister tomorrow, before the Joint Oireachtas Transport Committee, it would perhaps be an opportune time to question the Minister with regard to his view on establishing if in fact, there should now be a comprehensive review of the entirety of the Bus Éireann Expressway Network to establish which segments are commercially viability, and which are socially necessary.”
