NBRU PRESS RELEASE
Re: Irish Rail Dispute
The NBRU Reject Request to Call-off Strike Action
The CEO of Irish Rail, David Franks has written to the NBRU advising them that the pay cuts have now been implemented and asking that the union would reconsider its position with regard to further action. He also suggested that his door remained open for further discussions.
General Secretary Dermot O’Leary said,
“this intervention by the CEO completely dismisses the concerns of our members with regard to the future of the company, he has also chosen to ignore our members emphatic mandate for strike action (80%). It is absolutely mindboggling to think that he would request that our members would even consider discussions after their pay has been cut.”
Mr O’Leary went on to say,
“it is only 48hours since the Minister Donohue cautioned that the next intervention in this dispute would be vital. The fact is that our members deem Mr Franks to be directly responsible for the disruption caused to rail services by his actions in imposing a cut to their wages, his letter has only served to increase their anger
