NBRU speaks out against Fare Increases
The NBRU today announced that they were opposed to Fare Increases as a means of plugging the gap created by the Government shortfall in providing adequate funding for Public Transport.
General Secretary Dermot O’Leary said:
“Following on from workers having their pockets picked in order to prop up the provision of a Public Transport Service it seems this Government are determined to drive people away from using Public Transport”
Mr O’Leary went on to say
“Increasing fares discourages people from using Public Transport, the NBRU have long been advocating an open and transparent debate on all aspects of Public Transport provision for the citizens of the state, however it appears that the Government are prepared to allow for essential funding to be stripped out whilst at the same time facilitating a Greyhound style race to the bottom on workers terms and conditions in the form of Privatising 10% of Publicly owned Bus Routes. The NBRU will not stand by and allow our members to be sacrificed to the vultures who place profit above service”
